Let’s get one thing straight; these people (Bart, Joey and Chad) are genetically different to you and me. They are called “mega-responders”, but it’s more fun, with the deepest of respect, to call them affectionately “genetic freaks”.

“Skating, to me, is everything,” Maureen Cohen Harrington, a member of the board of directors of WAR, said in an e-mail. “Physical health. Mental health. Accomplishment (at least, sometimes). Fun. Friendship. Travel. Adventure. While other sports subcultures may share many of these qualities, skating is uniquely appealing to me.”

NZ Timaru Herald – Skaters take to Timaru raceway

Christchurch’s Ollie Jones and Hutt Valley’s Antony Nalder Hutt scorched around the Timaru International Motor Raceway in the first ever 100km speed skating race held in New Zealand.

The pair fought out a close finish with Jones winning in the outstanding time of 2hr 55min 42.14sec, averaging just over 34kph, with Nalder just a few metres.
