128-kilometer race on inline skates around the Island of Montréal
I first want to say that it’s a pleasure for me to create this event to promote the Défi de l’île amical 2015. I just want you to know, that this doesn’t make me responsible of it. Every skater will be (and have to) be responsible for himself because there is no official organisation this year.
That being said, I also want you to know that I’m not sure yet if I am available to be there…. but I wish I will be part of this amazing event.
It will be the 20th edition of de Défi de l’île! You just don’t want to miss it. It will be a really nice message to M. Fortier if we can continue to make the event alive. It’s your turn to take part of it.
We will hold the event in its usual form: starting at 6 o’clock on the 3rd Saturday of October behind Verdun’s Auditorium.
You can consult the official website to get ready for it. As M. Fortier is not organising it, here’s some stuff you should plan differently this year:
-We will not have an actual map, so if it’s your first experience you should print one from the website.
-There won’t be any new arrows to indicate the way. Be aware of where you have to go.
-M. Fortier use to inform us of detour or construction on the path. As he didn’t skate this year, I invite you to write on this event any information you have about this on this event.
-M. Fortier also use to check every part of road the weeks before the event. If it was not clean (because mostly of the leaves at this season), he would call municipality to make pressure on them. If you train on any section of the Défi, I invite you to take this in charge for a section or a part of a section. If not, well, leaves and all have always been part of the challenge, so let it be!
-We won’t have access to Verdun’s auditorium: plan your gears in advance.
-There won’t be any official time, but Christine Gyurics-Stitt proposed to time every skaters who skate the Défi under 8 hours (after she has other obligations)
-There won’t be water or volunteers between the sections. Plan enough water/liquid for the whole event and plan your gears in consequence.
Let’s the 20th edition of the Défi de l’île de Montréal be a one to remember. If any of you have more advice or information to share, please do. Share the events. If you have any other ideas or initiative to make this edition works, just go for it! I wish, again, that I’ll be part of it.
